Bird flu don't matter to us. Our family tradition (starting in 1985) is barbecue at Christmas: Barbecue ribs, hot links and chicken; baked beans; potato salad; collard greens; cole slaw; hot pinto beans; cornbread; red velvet cake. Makes for a damn good meal on Christmas Day.

Not sure what I'll be doing but I'm sure I'll have turkey at some point. Anyway, as long as you cook it properly - which you should do anyway cos of salmonella - then even if it was a bird flu carrier, it would still be ok as the bacteria would be killed in the cooking process.

I bought a fresh turkey crown on Monday and put it in the freezer, you can't get bird flu from cooked turkey, you only get it by been in contact with the live turkeys.

Mines been in the freezer for 10 days. My friend dissed me when I told her I'd bought my turkey so soon. Now with the outbreak of bird flu she admits I'm not so daft after all.

I thought the price was liable to soar this year due to bird flu, so I purchased one straight away, knowing it must have been frozen prior to the scare
