i had a similar experience. later i found out that it was that little pet toy thing, can't remember what it was called, but it was handheld game where you have to play, pet, feed your pet. It kept going off in the middle of night. The entire family went nuts and had to go through my lil bro's toy boxes to find it.

Smoke detector signaling that is low on battery is my guess. Mine did the same thing, drove me crazy.
