The exact meaning is not known, but as with many of these secret societies the use of "hand" in the name points to assassination or murder through stealth. "Black" might refer to a gloved hand, with the sinister associations of anything black.

Clearly this is etymology question, but I must correct you:
"Serbian group that assassinated F.Ferdinand" was Mlada Bosna (Young Bosnia), and members were not just Serbs but also muslims and Croats. Their main goal was liberation from Austro-Hungarian authorities and unification of all Slavs.
That movement wasn't serbian nationalism as many want to point out here, but their main goal was romantic idea of liberation from foreign rule and freedom to think and speak with you own language.
Black hand was secret movement in Serbia that assassinated serbian king and queen - Aleksandar and Draga Obrenovic.
Later they supported Gavrilo Princip to kill Franz Ferdinand, and some claim that especially Apis had role in that, but all that theory is blurry.
Anyway, misconception that Gavrilo (serbian for Gabriel) was Serb nationalist is wrong, because his identity was Yugoslav 1st, and Serbian 2nd. He sacrificed himself for all of us, not just for Serbs. And that assassination was just excuse for Austrians to attack Serbia, but that is long story now...
Merriam Webster Etymology:
Black Hand, a Sicilian and Italian-American secret society of the late 19th and 20th centuries
Date:
1904
"The Black Hand was a symbol and name for a criminal and terroristic secret society, and especially associated with the Mafia and the Camorra. The Black Hand flourished in Sicily in the late 19th cent., and in the United States it was especially active in New York City at the beginning of the 20th cent. It is estimated that at one time 90% of New York City’s Italian population was blackmailed by letters threatening death and marked with a black hand. Famous incidents associated with the Black Hand include the murder (1890) in New Orleans of chief of police Daniel Hennessy and the shooting (1909), in Palermo, Italy, of Lt. Joseph Petrosino of the New York City police"
LA MANO NEGRA ("The Black Hand") was an alleged anarchist organization in Spain. The Spanish police accused most of the Spanish anarchists of being part of the organization.
It is also a common expression in Spanish to say "Aquà hubo mano negra" ("There was a black hand here") to say that something has been made illegally or lacking moral values.
