Chances are there wont be much in it and it will depend upon which applications you are using.
Needless to say, apps that require a lot of memory will run more slowly (assuming you go above 512k), whereas small apps would run more quickly.
An extra 512mb for the newer PC would be pretty cheap nowadays. I'd swap the PCs and upgrade the memory in the new one.

I agree that there may not be much between them, but it will depend on what application you run - and application that does not require much memory will be better off with the higher processor, as the higher processor speed will compliment the higher speed of the DDR2.
The problem is that nowadays, you would really be looking at having more RAM than 512mb, so 1gb would be ideal, but then you have the limits of the slower processor.
I would take the newer computer and invest in AT LEAST another 512mb ram (DDR2), and you should have a pretty effective system.

Get this one 2.1 ghz more modern computer with an expensive motherboard and 512mb ddr2 ram, much faster than 1.5mhz. And the first one can be upgraded its RAM.

If you want the best performance then you better be ready to put your wallet on the line. The best PC you could get would prolly last you the next 5 years. You would require all the latest and best hardware and software. But I would advise against using Windows Vista for the time being as it's still pretty buggy and it's very gamer unfriendly.

It depends on how much the RAM will get used.
If the memory is mostly unused then the newer one will be faster though if the first one runs out of memory it'll revert to the hard drive and slow down a lot.

You should get the former, it's way better, and free! You can use the latter then as a jukebox, just get a cheap 250 GB HDD and download all the songs you like and play it all day, while working on your new computer!
