I don't think so because the Duron has a bus speed of 200MHz and the Athlon has a bus speed of 266MHz (The Bus speed is the front side bus speed basically the speed at which the chip talks to the motherboard)

Depends though I'd suspect not.

First of all the new CPU has to be of the same socket type as the socket on the motherboard otherwise you'll have trouble putting it in (so if you've got a Socket A motherboard and a Socket 754 chip you won't be getting anywhere).

Then there's chipset and BIOS support for the new processor which is something that you'll just have to find out by finding out what chipset you've got and whether it can handle the processor you want to be put into it. A BIOS update might be needed as well.

The answer to this is that it all depends upon which mother board you have.

Take the side off the PC and printed on the main board will be its name and model. You can then look this up on the manufacturers web site and it will tell you there which CPUs are supported.
