I have MS Word 2003 and when you go to "Insert" "Table" you can increase the number of Columns WAY beyond 5. Same for Rows; however, the rows part is easy the following way too. Just TAB at the end of a row and you keep getting more rows.

Click on the table icon,as you select the 5/4 option hold your left mouse button down and drag, you can then select any size you need.
Or you can select the table option from the formatting toolbar, then "insert table", a box will then come up and you can type on the amount of columns and rows you need.

Click on the table icon.
Move the mouse over the top left square.
Now click hold and drag right and down.
I have just created a table with 40 columns.
I don't know why I did that but I had to move the Word window to get it to work.

You should try making your table in Microsoft Excel. Draw borders around the cells and copy and paste your table into Microsoft word.
