Were you only using a BC trial key? If so, your trial has run out.

Go to manage account on the main website (worldofwarcraft.com)
It will tell you if you have Burning Crusade activated on your account, if it's not all you need to do is enter your BC CD key (there should be an upgrade option)
If it says your account is upgraded ask at Blizz's Customer Service Forums

maybe your copy of Burning crusade needs to be reloaded, or WOW is blown a gasket.
Try turning off your computer, close applications that would hinder performance, turn off mods... and see if that helps.
If your malfunctioning alts are on 1 server see what he server status is.
