Well, it's not really normal. Although I should really be saying it's not common. After all there are a lot of people who feel good after receiving some serious pain.
But there is really a lot of other ways to do that without permanently damaging your potential to have kids and be a man and all that. Remember that if your balls are destroyed, you could actually be "feminized", as in you will grow breasts, get a little bit fatter in all the wrong areas and lose your sexual drive/libido.
