Well, there can be a lot of factors here. Just because someone is educated, they can still be a sociopath (which means they have no conscience. In fact, their education might make them a *better* criminal because they're smarter and they would know how to pull off crimes easier without being caught. It would all depend on the crime of course.

An educated person may see (or think they see) greater avenues to success through criminality, same as an uneducated person. Take university students: some of the brightest students still feel the need to cheat because if they don't, they'll be beat by the other students that are cheating. An educated person may already have the means to get along okay, but they may feel the need to get just a little more money, a little more prestige, a bigger house, or a sleeker car so they can show off a little more.

Truth be told: I don't know. I don't purport to be any expert, but if I was to give an answer, I would suggest selfishness, though only for criminals commiting crimes consciously.

The world is built on trust. When you go to your bank for a cash withdrawal, you expect your money to be given to you. I believe that there is an innate concern for other human beings, so most people will not murder you if they could get away with it simply to take your belongings. These 'invisible barriers' aren't usually broken by goodly, caring people. I guess it's when these barriers break down that people no longer find it necessary to hold concern for others in the pursuit of what they wish to achieve.

IMHO.

My friend was so smart and educated he always felt he could get over on the system. He was too smart for his own good. Well, that worked against him in the long run as eventually even if one gets over on the justice system you will get caught. So, off to Prison he went. I guess he believed people would never catch on to his act. Although very educated, I suppose reasoning problems and emotions lead to his demise.

Greed--just because they are educated doesn't mean that they don't succumb to societies needs for greediness....to assume that only the uneducated are criminals is ludicrous!

Sometimes educated people think they are smarter than anyone else. Therefore, they think they can fool people to get money and get away with it or they just wanna have an ego trip when they manage to fool people. Unfortunately, there are smarter people than them.

They just have really bad issues. Whether it's dealing with a loved one or whatever, they have problems. But actually, some just are too languid and use their "knowledge" for easy money.

Sometimes I believe it is just the excitement as to whether they can get away with it. Sometimes just plain old fashioned greed. They want more than what they have,
