Hey... I recently got me deviated septum fixed on Oct 18th and had a small bump taken off from when I had broken my nose. The plastic surgeon told me I can not go tanning for a year. I am seriously going through withdrawls. I know it sounds ridiculous especially because tanning is so bad for you ne way.. but does ne one know what the effects would be to my nose that hes telling me not to go for a year? I have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks and I feel like Im gonna be the palest person there... I thought about spray tans and stuff but those all look orange and I dont want that. I know this question seems very superficial but I really wanna know what will happen because Im seriously about to go tanning with like a sock over my nose or something sooo before I do can someone just let me know whats the worse that could happen . Thanks so much :)

You should do as your doc tells you. There are medical reasons for what he said.
Just use one of those great, 'tan-without-the-sun' lotions all over your face and body.
They have some really great ones out now and you can't even tell it from the real thing.
Don't buy that cheap stuff. You get what you pay for.
Good luck and I hope you'll look radiant and sun-kissed : )

If you have any scarring from surgery then UV rays can delay the healing process and make a scar look worse. Tanning or even regular sun exposure may have unwanted side effects. You are right that tanning is bad for you. To me its just not worth aging my skin or risking getting cancer just to have that baked turkey glow. Some professional salons/spas offer a spray on tan treatment that does not leave a orangish look. Call around to the high end spas like in Hotels and see if anyone offers this service. Its more expensive but safer. This is your chance to change a bad habit and take care of your skin.

Just do it anyway, after all you obviously don't care about your skin.

And you must know it all and the surgeon knows nothing. I say go for it. Might as well look tan now, when you get older you will have spots all over your leathery skin. Better get a good man now too. One that will stick with you through skin cancer.

And yes, this IS superficial. It seems to be because it is. Try working on your inside and you won't care about a silly tan.

I promise you, you cannot possibly be paler than me. I avoid the sun like the plague! Give white new meaning, lol. I'd follow his advice, why risk the damage?

Actually I'd give up tanning completely because I've seen what it does in the long run.

Back when I was 24 I knew a woman who tended the local bar, she looked about 45, one day we got to talking and turns out she was only 33!!!! Since then I've stayed out of the sun and the tanning bed! I'm 33 now, and glad not to look like her! Because she's still tan, but now she resembles old leather!

"New" skin is much more susceptible to sun damage. Tanning may make any scars darker and more visible or interfere with healing. Please pay attention to your physicians advice.
Tanning is very harmful to the skin, the damage will accumulate over time and lead to premature wrinkling, discoloration, and sagging. You may not care now, but you will get older and you will be berating yourself for ruining your skin.
I have never tanned, other than the natural tan you get when outside, and then I use sun screen. I have always used bronzers, sprays etc. and my skin is better preserved than almost anyone my age.
