Copyrights and selling crafts on ebay question?

My aunt wants to start selling homemade crafts and mugs with pictures of scenes from old movies. I'm concerned that this may backfire with copyright laws. Anyone know if there are any loop holes or problems? Please help.

Using pictures of old movies is no longer a violation of the Copyright Law because these were no longer covered due to a long period of time and these are already open to the public.

She can't do it without a license from the owner of the films' copyrights, and it doesn't matter if she prints out actual scenes or draws them herself.

It's true that depending on how old the movies are, there is a chance the copyrights have expired and the movies are in the public domain. In that case, she can do whatever she wants.

But copyrights owned by corporate "authors" are protected for 95 years, so a movie would have had to be created prior to 1912 to be in the public domain.

If they are actual images from the movie etc.. they are probably copyrighted. If she does the art HERSELF then it is her art and not copyright. Unlikely the owner of the copyright would come after her but ebay would cancel the auctions should they catch it..Copyright laws vary but most images etc. are covered at least 100 years - doubtful any of the movies will be that old ;> - So the images ARE copyrighted
