Are you talking about the song "Daniel" by Elton John? It's about a wounded blind war veteran who can't adjust to returning home so he's leaving again. Many people thought it was about gay lovers. What happened was that there was another verse that explained their relationship better but Elton deleted it when he recorded this song. He probably did it for time because the song was released as a single and there were limits on how long songs could be when they were played on the radio.
