If I have a bunch of F's from one institution- and I attempt to apply and transfer to another. WITHIN the CSU system, will they kow about the bad grades and require a transcript from my time there? Or can I get a fresh start and pretend it never happened?

They do follow you, but it doesn't necessarily hurt you. Another year with excellent grades will prove you have turned it around. I had health and work issues and wound up with a semester of Fs myself.

The CSU system all communicate with each other, so there is no escape. It can make you stronger though. You know now how it feels, what part in this you played, and what you need to do to turn this around. You create your own fresh start. Have the academic counselor advise you on your next steps to take. Now you're in the driver's seat -go for it!

Some places allow you to retake the class and override the grade.

I don't know how else to tell you.... but yes. Yes, truth hurts.

You can't erase them, but you can try 'compensating' by good references, community work, and work experience.
