I guess some of these folks have never done the grab bag gift exchange. There is usually a firm price limit, and gift cards are considered cheating. The idea for a bottle of wine is a good idea. If you get a book, buy a short story collection or a book of poetry. Pablo Neruda is a really romantic choice. But you just won't go wrong with a $9.99 bargain DVD or even 2 DVDs from that bin at WalMart that has $5 DVDs in it. Look for classics or blockbuster movies that are a little older. I usually go for the anthologies, and when we do the Grinch exchange my gifts get stolen back and forth a lot. I look for the Little Rascals, Three Stooges, Andy Griffith... any classic TV stuff is usually popular in my age bracket. It can also be fun to find older DVDs that have some of today's big stars in them, like Jennifer Aniston in Leprechaun, or Johnny Depp in A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Candy. In my family, when I have to get a gift for someone and I have no idea what to get them, I go to a local chocolate shop and get a half-pound box of chocolate covered cherries. Last year, I got some cinnamon roasted almonds for my brother-in-law, because I didn't really know him that well, and everybody loves snacks! A movie pass is also a good idea, because basically everyone likes to go to the movies.

Gift cards are always a great way to go, especially a visa gift card that you can spend anywhere. I agree, movie gift cards are a great idea.
If you are looking for something more "gift-ish" and less like money, I'd try a nice unisex looking scarf or some cozy winter slippers.

Candies, Coffee from a coffee house, mug, gift cards, Christmas movies ( It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, or my favorite A Christmas Story) people look forward to them and you can get them at Walmart pretty cheap!

Yeah I'd go with a gift card. It is something someone would use, it's practical, generic and unisex.

I would love to have a giftcard to the local video store (HollyWood Video, Blockbuster, etc..)
Is it limited to 10 dollars? Or is that all you want to spend...
You can make a great gift basket for movie night..
Go to the movie store..
Buy the following:
Bucket of Popcorn (unpopped)
2 20 oz cokes or whatever
package of twizzlers
package of m&ms
$10.00 gift card
Take it all home put Everything in the bucket and viola, instant movie night gift basket! All for about 15 dollars!
