If the coin has Lincolns bust and a lions head is engraved or punched in the it could have come from a zoo or the Lion's club as a memento. The reverse must be also like a regular cent. If Lincoln is missing, or the reverse is different, then it is a medal or token of some kind. It is not uncommon to find cents with engravings on them. There is a set of 50 out there that have the outline of each state on it.

Someone likely counter-stamped the coin with a metal punch. There were a bunch of cent coins counter-stamped with JFK's face back in the 1970's as well. This type of coin is a novelty item and adds no value to the coin itself and would make the coin less valuable to a coin dealer or collector.
