Is the seal under the " potty " upon which your comode sits broken or ruptured ? Is there blockage of some type in the pipe which leads to the septic tank or sewer ? If on septic tank has it been cleaned recently? Sometimes if the wind is blowing from a direction it may be taking the gas which escapes from the standpipe and redirects it into the house.

in your bathroom u have a toilet which has a trap built in, u have a sink u can look underneath to see if it has a trap and u have a tub and/or shower 9 times out of 10 when u have sewer smell the ppl who installed your bathroom weren't plumbers and they didn't know you have to put a trap on the tub. I've seen this problem so many times its funny. if your house is on a slab and your bathroom is on the ground floor i would advise u hire a professional to evaluate the problem. if the plumbing underneath the bathroom is assessable its an easy fix for a handyman. hope this helps you

maybe this will help.all sinks in you home has p/traps.look under you sink where the drain comes down and you will see a u shaped pipe about 1''and 1/4 in size.this p/trap is what keeps sewer gases from entering your home.water remains in it-about half way blocking the sewer gases from entering.that's why sometime if you go on vacation or don't use a sink for a while the water dries out and releasing sewer gas into the home.your comode has the trap inside it and like goosie said it could be the wax seal under the comode needs replaced.i would try first if you have youngsters to mop around the comode first with Lysol if you have young boys their aim sometime is off and it will build up smell.also check your clean outs under the sinks to make sure they are tight.still smell e-mail me and i can offer more things to check for.i don't know if you have cement or wood floors.other possibilities then.

There are several things it could be. In most cases it is the waxring for the toilet. It could be a broken trap under the tub/shower. If the fixtures are improperly vented it could be sucking the traps dry. The one way to know for sure is by having a smoke test performed. Any lic. plumber should know how to do this.

If you have a septic tank, time to get it cleaned. Otherwise try to locate whether it is coming from the drain in the tub or sink, if it is try dumping some baking soda down the drain and add just a little bit of water, let set for awhile and rinse well with hot water....

you have an air leak or possible vent stack obstruction.
this is a combination of methane, not good. call a certified plumber.
