I mean given as a birthday gift.

There are many pictures worth a thousand words. A painting or a poem would not hit the heart like the famous photo of the fireman carrying the wounded child from the ashes of 9-11.

You mean as a birthday or Christmas gift? A painting that someone themselves has painted, or a poem they've written?

A picture of themselves?

If you mean a poem that someone themselves has written, as opposed to a painting they bought at Wal-Marts or wherever, of course I would opt for the poem.

I checked your profile, and from what little info. you posted, I would imagine you would select a poem too. Correct? Wrong?

A poem is more deeper in feelings. But a paint is more profound and meaningful when its represent the person whom you are dedicating it.
