yeah Dubya was in the Guard, but all he did was run amuk and party...  IF and I sure hope there is NOT , but IF there IS a draft... it will affect men 18-26 mostly... and I wouldn't be surprised if they might even try to draft WOMEN now too.. who knows.  but anyway..... to get a deferment you would have to be a full time college student in good standing. Stay in until you are 26 and PRAY the war gets over so you never have to go---OR,  you might have some physical defect that would get you what is called a 4F status.... it could be something as minor as deaf in one ear or blind in one eye or having 7 toes on one foot (making boots not fit properly)... or any kind of internal organ problem that is permanent (ie. heart condition, lung disease, liver disease, etc)....   Faking an illness is nearly impossible and by the way, in the 60's during the draft for the Vietnam war, SOME guys who didn't want to go to war went to their draft boards in DRESSES.. do that this time and you'll probably be the FIRST to get shipped to Iraq or Iran...  Oh and Canada USED to be really good to people who moved there to escape the draft... toward the end of Vietnam, Canada became a LOT less friendly to our boys who fled up there ... so don't think that will stop you from getting nabbed either...With this new computer age, it will be a LOT easier to catch people... so you all best sit and PRAY that these wars end soon.!!!!!

Bush volunteered for service in Vietnam on three separate occasions. Because he was in the military at the time Nixon was drawing down our forces he was not sent. This was true of many in the military at that time, due to the policy of "Vietnamization" that was reducing the U.S. role primarily to logistic support.
Of course, these are mere facts, and the anti-Bush crowd never bothers to let facts influence their opinions. After all, ignorance is so much less work.

Stop showing your ignorance.
Bush was in the National Guard. Cheney got the deferments.
Sheese. At least get your facts straight before you start your predictable Bush bashing.
And by the way, how many anti-war protests did Clinton go to on his deferment to Europe? You know, when he wasn't inhaling.

The Republican model is to work hard make several million dollars and buy your way through life.
Once you have say $100M you can pay off the draft or choose to play jet fighter while staying drunk for months on end.

All branches of the military have recently been exceeding their recruitment goals. You don't have to worry.
