Just jammed it and sprained it keep ice on it and find a wrap of some kind to keep it as immobile as possible.

Sowat... I have had the same thing happen and it was not serious only like I said a sprain! FYC! I boxed for almost 10 years this was a regular occurrence! I don't appreciate the name calling!

I did the same thing while ski-ing last year. My thumb bent back as I fell. If I were you I'd get it checked out straight away. I didn't bother, and I couldn't even lift a plate of food with that hand for months. It did eventually heal and now (10 months later) I just get the odd twinge.

Even if you haven't broken your thumb you might need some kind of physio. Don't leave it too late like me! I did go to get it checked 2 months later, and they said that they could have helped if I'd gone in earlier, but that it was too late then.

Okay, im hoping that this is joke because the first two posters are Bozo and Cookie the clowns.

Its cold? Vascular condition, huge and hard, vascular condition, Black? No circulation, vascular condition. Broke or sprain is the least of your worries. If this is true get to the ER pronto or risk lossing a thumb.
