I'm a big Sandford and Son fan but i'm fairly young.. so that's why i dont remember Grandy taking over the show.. Where did Fred go? Did he just quit? And does anyone remember the show he (Redd Foxx) had with the big white guy?

The version with the "big white guy" Bubba (Dennis Burke) was titled just "Sanford" (1981-83).

Redd Foxx walked off the original show just as its second season was ending over salary (AND dressing room) issues so Whitman Mayo (Grady) replaced him in those episodes and part of the third season until the dispute was settled.

"The Sanford Arms" (1977) involved a landlord (Teddy Wilson) and his family who had moved into the Sanford home (after he moved back to St. Louis) and taken over the tenement Fred ran in the later seasons of S&S;Redd Foxx had quit the show for good in 1977 to do a variety show on ABC...both lasted only 13 episodes.

The "Sanford Arms" and "Sanford" sequel series were last shown on BET a dozen years ago. Neither have been released on DVD.

Grady (Whitman Mayo) took over the lead after Redd Foxx left over salary and dressing room disputes. The other show was called "The Sanford Arms".
