I work at the movie theater and I had put in that I could not work on thanksgiving because it is very important for me and my family and all my family will be at my house and it is special for me. I will be off to college soon so I want to have a good thanksgiving. I got my schedule today and they scheduled me 7 hours... No one will take my shift. Is there anything I can do besides quit (I really dont like it there)? Please help. I know this sounds so stupid but it is one of those things that are really important to me. Thanks

All kinds of jobs require working on holidays (hospitals in particular never close, and every single hour has to be covered). Everyone wants Thanksgiving and Christmas off. It's not right to just simply not show up, that hurts the business. You should quit before next week if you plan to quit, that way the person who will be taking your place will have ample notice that their holiday is going to be ruined instead of yours. That way they'll have time to plan.

I think you should talk to your parents and see what THEY want you to do. They may want you to keep the job, and maybe they can shift the dinner around to accomodate you. Or maybe they don't care if you quit. Talk to them and see.

You don't necessarily have to quit. I would first ask your boss and tell him/her how important it is to you and your family to be together, yadayadayada. I know that this isn't really the best thing to do, but maybe call in? I think that would be the next best thing. With quitting, you want to give at least 2 weeks notice, and unfortunately Thanksgiving is in a week. But it's completely up to you. Do whatever you think, but I would definitely talk to your boss. Are you going out of town on Thanksgiving, because, if you're going out of town you obviously cannot work...
;o)

Maybe ask someone to work for you as a personal favor or quit. If you don't like a job, just quit because it's not good for you to force yourself to do something that you don't enjoy. good luck. Maybe you can fake a sickness. A couple days before thanksgiving, start coughing and stuff and then a day before it, call in sick saying that you have the flu because you didn't get a flu shot. I hope I helped.

For one thing, it's nice to see some people care more about their family then about their job. So I give you props. : ) Second of all, You could try talking to your boss about getting that day off, because time with your family on Holidays are very important to you, and you would hate not being there with them for Thankgiving, the one day you can be greatfull about having those people in your life. And think about this...if it was your last day, would you rather spend it in a boring office, or with people you know and love to death? Just think about it. And I hope this helps.

Have a wonderful day,

:]

I totally understand. But if they won't respect you enough to not make you work on thanksgiving, and you don't like it there, then quit. I know you said other than quiting but that really seems like the best thing for you to do.

i think that you should talk to your boss as if like you say you did put down that you couldn't work thanks giving then you gave them ample notice to work something out, if this doesn't work then i would quit! Godd Luck and have a good thanksgiving

Talk to your manager and hopefully, being as it is the holidays, he may be understanding and try to work something out.

If this doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you, other than quitting. Sorry :(

talk to the manager, that prolly your best bet as the person above me said. its quite outrageous that they're open on a holiday like that anyways :[
good luck!

Oh and i would mention to your manger that its a family oriented holiday and its very important to you.
