I saw this 1982 yamaha xt200, enduro, 4 stroke for sale. It has 6500 miles on it and am told that it runs great. It is going for $1,000. Is that a good buy. How many miles is a lot for something like that? thanks.

Be advised that buying parts for a motorcycle over twenty years old can be hard to find. Unless it is a popular bike such as a Harley, and some of the popular imports.
I see brand new 200 cc Chinese made (I know, made in China isn't a good thing) street legal enduro motorcycles advertised for about $1300 and they have a 2 year warranty. I'm sure they put out more power than a 25 year old 200 cc. And I'm sure they have better brakes than a 25 year old model too.
It might be worth looking into before you buy.
You can try looking at www.kabra-offroad.com
or
Freedom Motorsports at 602-621-6232.

They are dealers that sell the Chinese bikes in my area, Arizona. There are likely dealers in your area too.

Nope,

Too many potential problems.

Told it runs good? That could be, or not. Bikes do not fare well sitting. I have 2 old bikes, a 1972 Honda CT-90, which I was told "runs good". It had shot cables and brakes, as well as a shot fuel valve and battery. It ran good, but it had to be pushed to start it. It is fixed now, $400.00 later.

My other old bike, is a Honda 1983 CB900C, it also "ran good" on starting fluid! The carbs are a nightmare on these bikes, but it is running now. The fuel tank is now more solder than steel, but is now sealed up. The now running bike needs the entire rear brake assembly, which was half missing and seized up. It will be road worthy in a few months.

that is what you should expect for "runs great", and if you like to fix them like I do, then you have a beautiful thing there!

6.5k in over 25 years could be kinda scary!!! Where has it been sitting all that time? We get stuff like that all the time and from the mouse that got in the ferring and ate up a bunch of wires and cables that are no longer available, to moisture condensation corrosion damage etc. I would rather find one that has been and is getting used. 16500 miles would make me a lot happier! Even at that price.

Instead of asking yourself if it is worth it, think about the fact that you can buy a bike for that price that is 15 years newer.
