i have not read the article, yet. it would be a big mistake to cut musical ed from schools. i don't know if the article is true about higher wages, but thinking logically it could be possible. that is music lessons give the person being trained not only about music, but also thinking and seeing ways to do other things. for example if i can use what i learn in music lessons in music and also use that same lesson in something else in my life . i am pretty sure it would work.

Unfortunately, those tubas, clarinets, et al needed for music programs; sports such as wrestling, field hockey, et al; field trips to museums, et al; have all been shelved, for the terrorism wild goose chase perpetuated by the two Bush Administrations.

Bush's reactionary invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan have turned a small, fringe terrorist organization with little recognition into a World -Class movement.

That is where the money is going.

Because in our society nowadays, the emphasis in education is on training for a particular specialty, not in the liberal arts.

I read the article, and a fine one it is. It's sad, but true: a good liberal arts education has lost its value in today's world. Most people don't look beyond their noses, and deprecate anything that isn't most germaine to the pursuit at hand.

Foreign languages are no longer valued except those of countries with which we are in conflict: Arabic, Chinese, etc.

I was not aware there was a movement to cut music ed from schools. I have yet to see a school that does not have a marching band or pep rally band. Music should remain as a basic education tool since schools are suppose to give the building blocks for the future and musicians are something society wants.

Because music programs cost money, and most of the money in this country goes to Iraq.

Because we have a me, me, me, me one size fits all attitude where encouragement of the individual has given way to mass produced robots.

I got out and moved to a country that is emerging from that to encouraging individualism.

People don't believe physical education and music are important since they are not really applied to any jobs.

I don't know why but it really sucks. Music was my favorite class when I was in High School.

Because people don't see education as the investment it is. Our schools are horribly underfunded.
