2x+9y = - 36

First: subtract 2x from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

2x - 2x+9y = - 36-2x
9y = - 36- 2x

SEc: isolate "y" by itself - divide each term by 9.

9y/9 = - 36/9 - 2x/9
y = -36/9 - 2x/9
y = - 4 - 2x/9 or, y = -2x/9 - 4
