Something that loads with Windows interferes with the video card, or something, any troubleshooting help, please?

It sounds like the plug-n-play communication is not being linked properly through the splitter. A proper splitter box will have one port where the DDC lines are linked and all other ports have no connection. Make sure there is a monitor on that port.

The other option might be that the bandwidth of the splitter is less than the monitors, so the monitors are telling the PC to use a resolution that the splitter can not support.

If this splitter is just a couple Y splitters, you may be degrading the signal beyond use. If this is a piece of powered hardware that splits the video to 4 screens, then I guess the problem is that your video card doesn't know what kind of monitor you have connected. Try booting in safemode and play with the resolution and refresh rates.

check your power usage. you might be using too much.
also, your video card is probably dying or your running out RAM for four monitors. disconnect two of then and try again

I can't think why anyone would need four monitors, but they might be drawing too much power.
