ok, you were given 2 equations, 1st is 8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114, 2nd is 5x + 3 = ?.

You have to find x in the 1st equation in order to solve the 2nd equation.

So let's find x first...
8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114
19x = 114
x = 6

Now that you know x, you could solve the 2nd equation...

5x + 3 = ? now since you now know x=6
5 (6) + 3 = ...

Just calculate the answer.

Hope this helps!

8x + 5x + 2x + 4x = 114

Always combine like terms. Here, the like terms are 8x,5x,2x,4x. After combining like terms, this is how the equation will look like:

19x=114
divide 19
x=6

Plug in x to the other equation.

5(6)+3=30+3=33
