And I'm serious.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of information to be learned on the study of hypnosis. It is a natural state that we all go through right before we fall asleep, and right before we awaken the next day. You can find yourself in instant hypnosis simply by sitting on a chair or bed and putting all of your attention on one thing, so you forget your outward experiences. This, in affect, is self-hypnosis. Hypnosis is natural then, so in no way is it against the Bible or God.
Right now, hypnosis has baffled scientists to such an extent that many just avoid the subject altogether. There are thousands upon thousands of experiments to be conducted on hypnosis that would prove many things, but none have yet been followed through.
I would say, have an open mind going into it. No one really knows that capability of what hypnosis can do, so just have an open mind. Remember, you are in control the entire time under hypnosis, and no one can tell you to do whatever it is you don't want to.
To summarize, I as a Christian think hypnosis as a blessing, as it is natural and a gift from God.

I am so sorry about your brother. I just lost a 16-yr old cousin in a fatal accident. It is so wise to take the time and think through decisions about healing methods before just jumping in.
I teach Sunday School at my church and had a student ask me a similar question. While I am no theologian, I love Christ and would like to think that I have a strong faith. I explained to my student that first of all, it is important to know why someone is exploring hypnosis. In some situations, people use hypnosis to remember traumatic events and such. In your case, it sounds like you would be using it to heal from grief.
I would be very cautious. From a Christian point of view, we should remember that in the Bible we are told that no matter what we are going through, God's grace is sufficient. "Sufficient" is a heavy word that indicates that no matter how great or small our pain or need is, Christ is ENOUGH. There are also other issues at play, such as realizing that a Christian's life is marked by a hope and understanding that non-believers do not possess. Death is hard for anyone, especially people we are close too, but as Christians we know that death is temporary. If you are looking to escape the pain by other methods than turning to Christ, reading the bible, turning to Christian mentors and prayer, then are you really trusting in a God that you believe is almighty? We know that God can use bad things that happen to glorify his kingdom and ultimately for good. So explore healthy ways to get through your pain and look for ways that God will use your story to touch and/or heal others or to connect you to people who could benefit from hearing how God got you through a painful time. God demands the glory and credit for who he is and for what he has done for us. If you were to use hypnosis to get you through something that you should have been turning to God for, then the practice of hypnosis would get the credit, not God. It is so much more powerful to be able to look back and see how God worked in the mist of the pain and to see your relationship evolve with him, than to get short term satisfaction that is only temporal. A relationship with God is eternal. Remember, God loves your brother and knew him before he was created. He made your brother. Who better to cry out to?? Once again, I am sorry for your loss.

As long as you don't put the faith on hypnosis over your faith in God, then you are okay. You are going to have a hard time with this, and I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd recommend therapy if you can get it. A pastor should be able to help you, too, if you trust him or her. Losing a sibling is like losing an arm or leg...or worse...you will always miss him, but eventually you will get used to him being gone and things won't seem so bad.

Hello
Hypnotherapy has nothing to do with religion or spirituality is is to do with the way in which the subconscious mind functions.
Hypnosis will not make you forget your brother but can if done professionally help you relieve your stress.
Visit my site for more info on hypno if that helps & make sure that you go to a therapist who is qualified.

AND DITA....I dont think she asked your oppion....she said Christians!
Honestly as a Christian I dont believe in Hypnosis. Your giving control of your mind over to things that are NOT of God. The Bible does specifically say that.
I know your hurting....but time heals.
Sorry.....and God Bless

Well, I go to a Catholic school, & no one has ever said anything about hypnosis being bad. If you think that it can help you & won't harm you, then go ahead. I'm sorry about your brother. :[

I don't feel qualified to tell you what to do in this particular instance, but I am a Christian and have never heard of anyone having a moral objection to hypnotism. Before you go to anyone for hypnotism, check his credentials and if possible his reputation.

Luke 18:1 Jesus told his disciples that they "should always pray and not give up." and then Jesus asked "...will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?" Pray to God from your heart for healing. Don't stop. Don't give up. God wants us to ask him for help. He loves us.
