0.4x - 0.12x = 1.6 + 1.2
0.28x = 2.8

divide both side by 0.28 to get the x

x = 10

Multiply both sides by 25
10(x-3) = (3x + 40)
distribute the '10' on the left:
10x - 30 = 3x + 40
subtract 3x from both sides
7 x -30 = 40

add 30 to both sides
7x = 70
