Thunderstorms. Cumulonimbus cloud are convective type clouds that grow from cumulus clouds. They are the only cloud type that causes thunderstorms.

Its the technical term for the clouds that produce thunderstorms. Temperature, winds, & other factors will cause the precipation to fall as rain, hail, sleet, &/or snow. What matters most is that you are in a safe location during a storm, since lightening can travel some distance
