Yes, they are fully edible. Unfortunately the guy who said they were a member of the solananceae is quite wrong. Sweet potatoes have no relation to the regular "irish potato" which is a member of a poisonous plant family. Sweet potatoes are members of the morning glory family, and the sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is edible, including the leaves. The "ornamental" varieties are just different varieties than the common produce variety. Most people don't even realize they do produce tubers. Just microwave or bake and enjoy.

Better ask your nurseryman. Potatoes belong to the solanaceae family and can be poisonous. I know with regular white potatoes they are okay as long as you cut out any green portions. I don't know what you have and don't think it is worth the risk if you are not sure!!!

They are edible but not as tasty. Why not save them in a cool dark place and replant next year?
