If I don't go into labor in the next week, my doctor will have to induce me right after Thanksgiving. I am terrified of the intense/fast contractions that pitocin can cause, and I need some ideas to help get this labor started NOW! I will try just about anything at this point. Any ideas?

If your body and your baby aren't ready, nothing you can do at home will effectively start labour.

And any kind of induced labour is generally a lot tougher on the mother and baby than a natural one no matter what the method.

Why will your doctor "have" to induce you right after Thanksgiving? And why no other option than pitocin?

Trust me, I have tried EVERYTHING to induce my labor. I am due tomorrow, 100%effaced, dilated 2cm, but am having no contractions. I've tried sex, getting a pedicure, walking, spicy foods, driving down bumpy roads, nipple stimulation, orgasms, etc. The other thing I havent tried was castor oil; and thats only because it works for some people and doesnt work for others but it acts as a colon cleanser and I'm already miserable enough I dont need to spend the next 2 days on the toilet! My doctor wont even talk of inducing until 41weeks which would be Thanksgiving so she said if nothing happens by next week to pick a day to induce for after Thanksgiving. I know how miserable you are! If you find anything that works please let me know.. I'd love to try it out.

relax, slow down and breathe!!! stress is going to cause bubs to stay in there longer, not get him out quicker!
They are clever little buggers and know when its not a good time to come. Bubs needs to sense calmness and readiness from mum first before releasing the hormone to start labour.
Nothing you do will start him coming unless he's good and ready.
There are some unproven methods like sex and nipple stimulation and lots of walking that can sometimes help things along but its not a sure-fire method.
DO NOT DRINK CASTOR OIL!! or you will be sitting on the toilet for the next 48hours.

If it does come down to an induction, ask your doctor for less invasive methods first like the 'Gel' on your cervix or breaking your waters first as these are more likely to be natural and easier for you.
I didn't have the drip and the above two things had me delivering in 8hours with no drip, epidural or any 'medical intervention'. AND my baby was 9pd!!
If you have to have the drip because the other two didn't work then ask for a lower dose to start with so the contractions don't come one on top of the other. Some times they mistakenly turn it up too high, so ask for it slower.

It's nothing to fear really. Just relax, enjoy your last days as a pregnant mummy-to-be and enjoy thanksgiving if you even make it that far.

Best of luck and RELAX!!

Having you labor induced is not as awful as you are imagining. I had to have one pregnancy induced, no different from the other pregnancy. Trying to induce labor yourself rarely works. You may very well go into labor before you are induced anyway

Try Sex, walking, going up and down stairs, bouncing on one of those big exercise balls, spicy food, nipple stimulation, squats.

Also, I was induced with my first and everything was fine...i did have an epidural though...and i plan on having another induction in 2 weeks with this baby...at least with inducing, the drs and nurses are there and watching and making sure with everything that happens.

Good luck!

I had to be induced and it was fine. had no problems, it was my 1st child so it was nice to be able to know I was at the hospital when labor started and there were ppl there to help me. I prefered that to being in a mall and have my water break or something. lol. but ya I was nervous but it is no big deal. everything went really good :) Good luck!!

Tell your doctor NO!!
It is your body, & don't worry, he won't drop you as a patient... money talks!
SEX, nipple stimulation, & lots of it!!
that will stimulate your uterus to contract & produces hormones that are associated with labor, in general.
