I'm interested in building a food prep counter and would like to know names of materials I can use which are cheap and non absorbent and safe for food prep upon them. Thanks

Certainly # 1 & 2 offer the most valid; especially in a commercial sense; but you have options and don't state your intent beyond food prep.

No offense but CHEAP is a relative word. Non absorbent might not need apply to ALL manner of food prep.

Obviosuly in a residential setting there is formica/ Composites; Granite; Marble; Stainless; (not often used in that context); Butcher Block; etc.,.... as counter tops. Then there are many forms of cutting boards; Glass; Acrylic; teflon; etc.

Again with all due respect I have to wonder why you came here with the Q???

Corian is a great non absorbent material for food prep counters. It can also be repaired easily if you happen to scratch it.

Phillippine Mahogany? Brazilian Cherry? American Oak? Mexican Tile? Venetian Plaster? French Drains? Italian Marble?

Stainless steal is great but if you dent it you are stuck with a dented counter top.

Like the one girl said Corian is great for 2 reasons
1 it wont dent or break if you drop something on it
2 if you scratch it you can sand the scratch out.
