Ice maker kit w/saddle valve, no need to cut the line, protect from freezing.

Do Not split that line just use the ice maker kit with a turn down spear. It will puncture your copper line and seal itself. The tubing in it is usually a good 15 to 20 ft. plus you can shut the supply off when ever you need to. Ask for a kit to run a water line to the ice maker but you want the pvc not the copper kit. Easiest to install.

Ice makers don't use that much water so there is no need to split it. They have saddle valves at the big orange box and either copper or pvs feed lines. Protect it from freezing and keep a few Bud Lites in for me
