The outside lights go up after Thanksgiving dinner if there's time and nothing else is happening, otherwise it's Black Friday. Fresh tree will be bought as soon as the stands open, but won't be put up for another couple weeks. The amount varies.
Our little family has a little party of Christmas Eve--favorite finger foods, whatever you want to call it, sing carols, read the Christmas story and open gifts take a walk if it's snowing. Sometimes go to Midnight Mass

Generally the day after Thanksgiving the Christmas lights...tree... and decorations go up... I start playing Christmas CD'S... We all open one gift Christmas eve... And read "Twas the night before Christmas" of course leave cookies and milk for "Santa" and a couple carrots for the reindeer "Santa" usually leaves the kids a note on how proud he has been of them and lets them know his elf's watch ALL year long... We also make sure we watch the classics... (as a family) Miracle on 34th street... Its a wonderful life... The Grinch... Frosty... Rudolf... etc... We also make a gingerbread house and homemade dough ornaments... Don't forget to explain the TRUE meaning of Christmas... and say extra prayers of thankfulness...

Next week we start with just the tree and lights.
The weekend after Thanksgiving my husband and I put the ornaments on the tree and put up the lights outside.
We love Christmas so we put up a lot of stuff i.e. stockings and wreaths etc.
We have a lot of fun doing it.

We live in a small 2 br condo. We use to have a tree but gave it to a young couple that got married just before Christmas. They started out on a shoe string, so we gave them our tree, all the ornaments, lights, everything. Best Christmas we had.

Yeah, I used to artwork in retail in a mall, and as a lot as you may want to hate seeing the decorations out I hated it extra. the reality is that the shoppers are the reason that the decorations are out. each and every twelve months I heard lawsuits in October about Christmas decorations being out, yet they'd be paying for Christmas presents!! it really is only actual a kind of issues. My mom does all her Christmas paying for over the summer season, so she has time to "loosen up" in the course of the holidays. And by ability of loosen up I recommend difficulty about which kin are coming to visit, and the position they are going to stay, and no matter if she ought to apply a similar recipe for mashed potatoes as she did very last twelve months!

Everything goes up the day after Thanksgiving and comes down before New Year's Eve. We go all out on the inside, but not on the outside (we are not yard art fans). It's all about personal preference!

Early Dec. Usually just a tree, some knicknacks. No lights outside because I don't have an electric hookup.
