I know there is plenty of wonderful stories out there. Plenty of happy memories etc etc. But in the big picture, is all of this worth it when you have millions starving, millions being molested, beaten, repressed, killed etc etc. is the suffering of millions ok because there is some good out of it?

What do you mean by worth it? There will always be pain and suffering in the world. But why do you point out just the bad in the world when you can look at the good also. Such as you wouldn't know but I helped my very sick uncle today, he would be even more suffering without me. Why not take away other peoples suffering other than just pointing out the problems with society. Millions are starving because there isn't a stable government to feed the people. Millions get raped, beaten, repressed because their society allows it. I'm glad I live in America where most of what is mentioned is very low, or if there is any people for the most part help other people out. Instead of asking if its worth it, ask how can I help to improve this world, and upon asking your self this you'll understand getting rid of the Kim Jong Il's and the Saddam Hussein's of the world to make it a more prosperous, peaceful place to live.

I really don't know if it is. I am drawn to the title of that song: Love's the only house big enough for all the pain in the world. I think that is the ultimate truth of this planet.
Noone lives an unscathed life, but if they can find love, (not just lust or passion,) but a love that puts others ahead of oneself without sacrificing oneself in the process where everyone can thrive, have passion, have purpose. That doesn't include God as a component, but I think God is Love.
Perhaps some people do pollute the image of God with their religion.
But I think the point of God is this type of selfless love.
I think selfishness, greed, a lust for power and possessions is the root cause of a lot of the unhappiness and strife that is promulgated by humans who forsake the good within humanity.

Ancient Europeans wrote about Ages of Man.

There are also many other references to various
types of world ages or Ages of Man in Hopi
(worlds), Mayan (suns) and other cultures of
antiquity. Giorgio de Santillana, the former
professsor of the history of science, mentions
approximately thirty ancient cultures that
believed in the concept of a series of ages and
the rise and fall of history, with alternating
Dark and Golden Ages.

More details of these Ages are available in the
Yuga concept of the Hindus. The present age
is known as Kali Yuga (age of darkness).

There was no suffering in golden age.

if you can see, breathe, and feel things, like love and happiness, it is all worth it.

people take the most beautiful and amazing gifts for granted.

being able to just experince life itself, is worth each and every second of pain.

i've been at different points in my life, some where i wanted to simply walk into the river and die, but these times eventually Do go away. sometimes it takes years, but they do fade.

don't do anything drastic to the "you" of the future. it's not fair to that person you are destined become later.

the bad stuff is all around us, we cannot stop it all, but it MUST be a lifelong mission to atleast try damnit, do it for those who are hurting, keep breathing, take a firm angry grasp on reality and dig in, it's going to always be a smelly, scarry ride here on earth, just remember that those who are being abused and killed, they would not want you to hurt too, they would want you to fight for them, don't give up.

One possible answer is no, it is not " worth it ", and yes, there is a way out.

You might read up on Buddhism if you are interested. If you decide it's for you, you will not need to be troubled by this question again.

Good Luck,

;-)

it is not worth it since most strife is from religious intolerance and I do not mean intolerance towards religion. I am referring to intolerance caused by religion. Religion stirs up strife.
