find the amount of the change and then divide by the original amount

Ex: if something increased from 30 to 70 then the amount it changed is 40
percent increase = 40/30 = 1.33 = 133%

If something decreased from 20 to 15 then the change is 5
percent decrease = 5/20 = .25 = 25%

I'm not really sure what you're talking about, but I think it might be "Find the percentage of change of this or that crap" type of problem. Well, all you have to do is do
New amount-old amount=change amount.
Then:
(change amount/old amount)*100=percentage change from original amount.

I hope I answer your question...

Subtract the new value from the old value and divide your answer by the old value. If it is negative, it is a percent decrease. if it is positive, it is a percent increase.
