you just simplify it completely

example:

9/2 would be 4 1/2

you just have to see how many times 2 would go into 9.. which is 4 right? so 4 is your whole number. Then you subtract that (2x4) from your nine.. you get 1. so you keep that one over the two.
here:
9/2 -> 4.5
4 = the whole number (4x2)
.5 = left over
.5 = 1/2

here's another example:
17/3
5 = whole number (5x3=15 -> 17-15=2)
2 = left over number (put over the 3)
answer: 5 2/3

well, u can't turn a fraction into a mixed number (2/3) but u can turn an improper fraction into one (7/3). all you do is divide the numerator by the denominattor (in this case, it would be 2) then how ever much is left over u put over the denominator (2 1/3). its really simple after you figure it out.

good luck!

Firstly the fraction must b a improper fraction (larger numerator(top #))
Divide numerator by denominator (bottom#)

If you have a big pizza party and have one pineapple pizza and half an anchovy pizza left over afterward, you would say that you have "one and a half" pizzas. "One and a half" is the standard spoken-English way of expressing this number, and it is written as "11/2". This symbol, "11/2", is called a "mixed number", because it combines the "regular" number "1" with the fraction "1/2".
