I'm 16, and I want to try to get a job at starbucks as a barista. I'd prefer to work on fridays, saturdays, and sundays but I can work every day except for thrusdays ( weekdays would have to be after school). There's a hiring event tomarrow for baristas and shift supervisors and I want to try then.
I have a couple of questions;
-The only experiance I have working is as a volunteer worker at a nature center.
-Is an application necessary?
-If so, who should I put under contacts?
I was thinking of putting some of my teachers
-What sort of attitude/responses/appearence will the interviewer be looking for?
-Any tips to not show that you're nervous?
-How much would I recieve per hour? ( I live in NY)
-As a student, how many hours max. would you recommend to do per week?

Yes, there is an application. Be sure to check your spelling when you fill it out. I think your work as a volunteer at a nature center is great! You should wear very little makeup and jewelry when you go in--they have very strict standards for their workers in that area. Also, hopefully you don't have many piercings--they frown on ones other than regular earlobe ones. Teachers as references are fine--ask them first. I think the hourly rate is about $8, but it depends on the area. I would not do more than three shifts a week--make sure you can do the work without negatively impact your school work before you try any more. Attitude: be personable but too talky, keep your hands in your lap (it will help you be less nervous), don't fuss with your hair or face, and make eye contact and smile but not all the time.

I hope this helps--good luck in your interview!

They will only hire you if you are 18 or older so print this out and whip it out in two years.

-Experience doesn't make TOO much of a difference. The only very significant experience to a place like Starbucks would be having worked at a different Starbucks store before or having significant experience in fast food.
-An application is necessary for all jobs. For most of the jobs I have had the application came in as a formality.. I always interviewed first after giving them a resume or a spiel about how great I am.
-Guidance counselors could work. But be honest, if you have never had experience before just leave it blank or write down "First Job". You have to start somewhere! As long as you clearly show you are willing to learn and be trained (which most everyone ends up getting anyway) they shouldn't be too hesitant. Showing "experience" is really just a way of saying 'Ive been working for more years than you and deserve more pay or the non-entry level job', not that necessarily that they are more qualified. I believe anyone can be trained to do any job by throwing them into the front lines without a gun. They either make it or don't. Oops.. tangent....
-Honest responses! Good, positive attitudes. Clean and neat appearance.
-If you really are nervous they will tell no matter what you do. Just dance a little or shake it off beforehand; in fact, let them know your nervous and don't put effort into hiding it.

(as a college student): No more than 25-30. You only need 20 or so to get the benefits at Starbucks.

Don't make coffee jokes. If you have any kind of communication problem, state so early in the interview, or that's all they will be focused on while you speak. Do not be over-eager, but send off a pleasant vibe. Take anything they give you, if the person ask you when you're available, don't rule out times because you'd prefer not to do it then take any time you can get. A person could have a Ph.D in coffee making, but if you're available at better hours than they are, you're going to get the job.

You need to do an application, in fact if they hire you it is under law to obtain an application. DO NOT LIE on an application, it is a legal document and you can be taken to court. You need to put someone you worked under for the volunteer thing, a teacher, and a family friend- NOT FAMILY!
Obviously someone who is smiling, and don't talk, listen more. But if they ask you to get involved in an activity jump in there and be willing to help!
Probably $6.25-7.00
I would do anywhere from 15-30 hours a week. No more or you'll be stressed out. Obviously putting most of the workload on the weekends
