I agree with Irish Mommy, Ellen would make a wonderful first name and Ella or Ellie for short is adorable!

Marissa's a pretty name, but I don't like it all that much - maybe because I know too many Marissa's right now lol. I like the similar sounding name Marina a lot better - and Marina Ellen flows very well with the n sounds in there. Ellen is great though - it's really good that you're honoring a relative, especially an important one like your grandmother.

I quite like Ellen, especially with its special significance for you. ;) Marissa, on the other hand, is a bit too dated and "frilly" for my taste. Not exactly sure how to explain it, but I feel the same about most of the -issa type names (Alyssa, Melissa, etc.).
You might also consider Ellen as a first name, in your grandma's honor. ;) The nicknames Elle, Ella and Ellie are quite popular at the moment, so she'd actually fit right in! Just a thought.

I don't like names that end in a vowel sound and then the next name starts with one. It is unnatural in the English language (for the same reason we say "an apple" instead of "a apple" for example). It doesn't roll off the tongue and almost blends together into one word. I do like the name Ellen though because that's my mom's name :)

very pretty and classic and lovely to honour your grandmother. Its a beautiful name together.
My next child will have 'Kate' as a middle name if its a girl to honour my grandmother that passed away last month.
Just make sure the initials ME_? won't be a problem.
