Al Gore and others presume to tell us what Carbon dioxide concentration was at different times in Earth's history. They tell us they know this from gas pockets in glaciers. ARE GAS POCKETS IN GLACIERS IMPERMEABLE? Can gas molecules escape from a hole inside the ice and move through the ice over a period of thousands of years? What if there was life inside the gas pocket? If there was plant life like algae inside the pocket (before layers piled up on top, above, wouldn't the plant life use of CO2 and lower the measurement? If it was animal life, like tiny bugs, wouldn't it increase the carbon dioxide in the ice pocket? How can a gas pocket in a glacier accurately reflect the atmosphere of thousands of years ago?

The first answer says that gas pockets have been "considered" accurate for decades. WHY? Are gas pockets perfectly airtight over thousands of years?

The gas is embedded in ice, not pockets, like soda water. Otherwise Al Gore presentation was condemned by courts and found to be factually lacking. It is natural for warmer air to support more CO2 and also CO2 was also an indicator of recent cooling trends. Gore knowingly mislead people by carefully omitting key facts.

Al flunked science class in college, yet he is the spokesman for the current "science" based hysteria.
The National Academy of Sciences report reaffirmed the existence of the Medieval Warm Period from about 900 AD to 1300 AD and the Little Ice Age from about 1500 to 1850. Both of these periods occurred long before the invention of the SUV or human industrial activity could have possibly impacted the Earth's climate. In fact, scientists believe the Earth was warmer than today during the Medieval Warm Period, when the Vikings grew crops in Greenland.
What the climate alarmists and their advocates in the media have continued to ignore is the fact that the Little Ice Age, which resulted in harsh winters which froze New York Harbor and caused untold deaths, ended about 1850. So trying to prove man-made global warming by comparing the well-known fact that today's temperatures are warmer than during the Little Ice Age is akin to comparing summer to winter to show a catastrophic temperature trend.
Something that the media almost never addresses are the holes in the theory that C02 has been the driving force in global warming. Alarmists fail to adequately explain why temperatures began warming at the end of the Little Ice Age in about 1850, long before man-made CO2 emissions could have impacted the climate. Then about 1940, just as man-made CO2 emissions rose sharply, the temperatures began a decline that lasted until the 1970's, prompting the media and many scientists to fear a coming ice age.
A letter sent to the Canadian Prime Minister on April 6, 2006 by 60 prominent scientists who question the basis for climate alarmism, clearly explains the current state of scientific knowledge on global warming. The 60 scientists wrote: "If, back in the mid-1990s, we knew what we know today about climate, Kyoto would almost certainly not exist, because we would have concluded it was not necessary." The letter also noted: "‘Climate change is real' is a meaningless phrase used repeatedly by activists to convince the public that a climate catastrophe is looming and humanity is the cause. Neither of these fears is justified. Global climate changes occur all the time due to natural causes and the human impact still remains impossible to distinguish from this natural ‘noise."

And this is in the politics section.. because?
I'm not a climatologist, but from what I recall the measurement of CO2 amounts in the atmosphere has been conducted by thousands of scientists over a period of decades. It is not as though Al Gore is personally collecting these samples in Greenland and the North Pole, results have been compiled as a result of extensive science.
Moreover, ice core samples have proven to be reliable in building statistical models. Aside from this, observable increase in C02 within the last few decades are impressive enough to suggest that it is not a normal process.
At this point, it baffles me that anyone can conjecture that CO2 levels should be as high as they are, considering their monumental increase as a direct result of human industrial activity. Truly baffling.

Gosh, I wish someone more competent in the world was in charge of Global Warming! It is good that Al Gore is taking the USA to task for its "do nothing" environmental policy. We need something more effective than getting in the way of mining companies. Aesthetic environmentalism just will not make it in our era which has natural global warming plus what industrialism and motor vehicles are pouring into the atmosphere.

Ice core samples have been considered accurate for decades. Why all the sudden are they considered by some to be unreliable?
P.S. Al Gore doesnt measure CO2 in the ice cores...scientists do

well i have no way of proving it to you i don't have the university grants to go doing such things. but i tell you this at the moment there are plants in full bloom and insects flying around here in ireland that should be dead since august. so something is going weird if that is happening.

Beware of scientists with computer models. You know what they say; figures lie and liars figure. Big Al is no different. Venture capital anyone? All you have to have is GREEN and give it all to good old Uncle Al [Gore] the kiddies pal. You'll be his new best friend.
