1.A football team has won 38 games out of 70 played and still has 50 games to play.How many of these games must they win in order that the percentage of games won for the entire season is 60%?

2.An open box is constructed by starting with a rectangular sheet of metal 10cm by 14cm. Square peices are cut out of the corners and the resulting flaps are folded upward to make a box. If the box is 2 cm deep, find its volume.

3.A man divides a basket of apples among his four neighbors. The first neighbor got half the apples, the second neighbor got one-quarter of the apples,the third neighbor received one fifth of the apples, and the fourth neighbor got 6 apples. How many apples were in the basket?

4. Paul and rachel decided to create their own thermometer scales. On Paul's scale water freezes at 30DegreesP and boils at 130DegreesP. On Rachel's scale water freezes at 0DegreesR and boils at 150DegreesR. What temperature on Paul's scale corresponds to a temperature of 30DegreesR?

10% of 120 games = 12

50% of 120 games = 60

60 games (50%) + 12 games (10%) = 60% : 72 games

72 games - 38 games played = 34 games

34 wins are needed to = 60%

3) 1 = 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/5 + x
1 = 10/20 + 5/20 + 4/20 + x
1 = 19/20 + x
x = 1/20 = 6 apples
total apples were 60 + 30 + 24 + 6 = 120

4) 0 celcius = m(30) + b
b = -30m
100 celcius = m(130) -30m
100 = 100m
m = 1
b = -30
for paul celcius = x - 30

for rachael celcius = (2/3)x
so 2/3(30) = 20 celcius

for paul 20 = x - 30 = 50 for paul
