I don't want to move to Cuba...
I don't want to live under a dictatorship, but at the same time, I don't want to be away from him.
This is a really stupid decision on his part.
He thinks Cuba would be a "great place to live."
What do I do?

I don't want to end my relationship with him because he cares about me. I don't want him to go to Cuba, either. What can I do to make him change his mind? Everything I said about how it is a horrible place doesn't seem to change his mind...

You must be dumb as a rock, if you can't figure out this problem. Dump the moron, it's that simple. Once again, dump the moron, he will ruin your life, but at this juncture, you're doing a pretty good job of doing that, by yourself.

You can't make him, but, why don't you tell him, that you're taking the job for the two years, and would then quite happily move to him. Then mention that you'd love for him to come to Australia, if he goes quiet, just say, it means a lot to you, and you really need to talk to him about this. Then if he doesn't talk leave it. You could suggest he moves over for a year, as opposed to two years, also, if this man is unwilling to move with you for a while, is he worth you moving there? He mightn't want to move due, to the fact that he's only just got back, and he'd be leaving everything behind again, and, you've only been together a year. Or perhaps something has happened in Europe, which has changed you're situations To try and convince him, you might want to compromise, start job hunting for him, or alternatively, maybe you may have to choose between him or the job.

okay okay okay... first of all, you said you like him, not even love him and you seem to know quite certainly that you don't want to move to cuba.... then don't!
Before you talk to him about Cuba, think about what you want in your life. What are YOUR dreams, where do YOU think would be "a great place to live," what your dream career would be and how to achieve it... think about YOUR life! If it seems like Cuba will not help you achieve these dreams then don't go. If he tries to "convince" you to move... explain all this to him calmly.
Live and lead your life in the direction you want it to go. Imagine yourself when you're older, retired and nearing the end of your life... what do you want to look back on? Cuba b/c of some guy??
PLUS... you may not even stay together, then you're going to have to a lot to deal with to move back home.
AND... does he really have to move? is it for a job or something really truly great? If the answer is no, and he still leaves despite your relationship then honestly he wasn't worth the time and it's better to end sooner than later. I know that hurts to think about, but it's true.
Good luck.

JJ I have been to Cuba.... I dont think any of the above people can make that claim...... Cuba is one of the safest places on Earth there are 5 star hotels on Veradero Beach......Old Havanna is great..... even got a pizza hut...... you will meet tourests from all over the world many from Europe , Spain Italy alot of Canadians...... Cubans are pretty cool people not like the second generation Miami kids.......the main thing I learned is that their Govt lies to them as well as ours to us Every country in the world does buisness with Cuba except USA and Isreal ...... go for the experience thru Mexico or Canada ..... the Cubans do not stamp your passport because they dont want to cause problems for you their cool about that........If you dont like it go home but you will have the experience of a lifetime...... It wont be the same when "Democracy" invades....... the crime rate in Cuba is Zero
one last thing.... They cannot deal with American Banks and dont take travelers checks...... they do have ATMs but you will need a Canadian ATM card and or Canadian Travel checks ......I find Dollars always work well...........nothing over a twenty........... there are travel guide books at Amazon.... many Cubans will put you up in their homes and feed you for a small fee..... many guesthouses

you can both kiss your U.S. citizenship good bye. It's not legal for you to travel to Cuba. You would have to go to Canada to travel there and then you would not be allowed back in. Or if you are, you'll go to jail. Is that a good enough reason not to go? Sure would be for me.
