The doctor told me that there is no dilation, and my cervix is thick and not effacing, he also said that if he tried to induce labour at this point, it would fail....is this normal? What if I go past-due and still no progress...what will happen..? Could there be a problem with my cervix..?

Just because nothing is happening right now doesn't mean you won't be going into labor soon.

Many women experience dilation and effacement just a few days or hours before the onset of labor and this might be the case with you.

In fact, sometimes it can be very frustrating for women who DO make a lot of early progress and then go into labor late. With me, I start dilating and effacing by week 37 or 37 and think something is going to happen soon but always have weeks of waiting ahead of me!

Either way.....patience is the key. Baby will come very soon and remember that every day they are in your tummy they are growing stronger and more ready to meet the world!

Just wait it out for now. Big changes could happen quickly over the next several days or week or two. They can always try to induce around 41 or 42 weeks, and use cervical ripening meds on you first to make the induction more likely to succeed. They wouldn't automatically give you a c-section - they would always try to ripen and induce first.

But don't worry. Have faith that your body will do what it needs to do. I strongly believe in the power of the mind to influence the body, and that if you are stressed and convinced labor isn't going to happen, you're going to have a harder time. Relax, visualize your body doing the job as it is meant to. Baby will be here soon enough. No woman has stayed pregnant forever. Good luck.

Your baby is not ready. I do not think that inducing labor would fail, I think it would long and miserable and chances are you would end up on the operating table. Its best to wait a little longer and let your body do what it was made to do. I know that sucks but there is not a whole lot you can do. There is nothing wrong with your cervix, your body is just not ready to give birth. Good Luck though, I hope your water breaks tomorrow and you have your baby in your arms tomorrow night!!

No, some women go all the way to 42 weeks. It happens occasionally. The baby has to come out sometime, I wouldn't sweat it .

well most doctors dont let you go past 42 weeks, so if there is no progress by your doctor might suggest a C-Section.
