Do you mean is physical contact necessary? That is an interesting debate. There is definitely evidence to suggest that most of us do better with physical contact of some sort. Have you heard the term "the caring touch"? ouch is one of the five ways the brain receives stimulating information to enable it to develop, maintain and repair itself. Touch has the first, most direct and powerful effect on the brain's programming and re-programming activity. Accordingly, touch, including its inherent kinesthetic (movement) stimulation, is particularly important in working with young children and with adults with brain impairments.
Massage has become a growing industry in our society. Look into that aspect of the question too.
Here are a few sites to get you started. I think they will lead you to more. Best of luck with your paper. It is a very interesting topic.

It's the difference between going through life mechanistically, and one of expriencing life as a human! Feelings are the ALARM SYSTEMS that sounds when we go against our own best interests--OR, the approbation of the NEED for CLOSENESS!! We grow within a human beeing--hear the hearbeat and the blood-flow--and the birth causes a separation. We have an inner Need to unite with another being. How often are we caught up in circumstances that drag us along a path that really is not to our best interests!! OFTEN!! Convention demands that we just "go along". But feelings build up and PROTEST and hopefully, we EXPLORE our feelings and the circumstances!! Our mind then DECIDES what is really in our best interests. It's a matter of SURVIVAL!!!------------i
OH!! I was responding to something re FEELINGS!! YET, I firmly believe that the NEED FOR HUMAN CLOSENESS is normal!! Number One, is the Human Need for reproduction. The other, is for Human Understanding and Closeness!! The first for Human Continuity; the second for the Human Soul!

physical contact is as vital as food or water to humans...people who receive more hugs and have sex more often are proven to live longer. they are more cheerful as well. you should also talk about how different cultures touch. ie. there was a study (in readers digest) comparing an hour american conversation with a puerto rican conversation. (another study says puerto ricans are the happiest race on the planet) during that hour the puerto ricans touched each other 80 times whereas the american couple touched each other 2 times during the conversation. a good website you can look for more things similar to this is newstarget.com (and type in what you're looking for)

Yes human contact is essential for human life. About 20 years ago they did a study with children who were living in hospitals because there weren't enough forster homes. They found out that the babies who were in the hospitals and who were only held while being feed or changed did not develop as normally as those who lived with one or two care takers who had time to cuddle and to hold the child. Those who lived with care takers who had the time and inclination to hold and cuddle the babies did a lot better in developing on time and with better results on standard test as those being warehoused in the hospitals where the nurses only had time to hold them when they needed changing or feeding. Humans need touch to live and to develop the way that they are supposed to. Elderly people in nursing homes who don't have much physical contact die quicker than those who have visitors and more human contact. Why does it feel so good when we're upset and someone comes and give us a hug or touch us on our shoulder? It's because it's proof that we're not alone in this life and that people care about us.

I believe it is. I'm not particularly a people person and enjoy my own company very much. however, i love to people watch, at the same time. I'm not particularly interested in other people's opinions, yet I'm on here killing time until my girlfriend gets home from work.
Maybe try looking up sensory deprivation studies for scientific info on the subject.

I think it is a very necessary thing and it probably makes people to be able to touch, hold, feel and be physical with someone.

i think it is more evolutionary, so our species can survive, and our body tells us this so we feel the need to be close to others
