I work at a daycare and one of the mothers gets mad that her child poops 2-3 times a day. She says when she has him a home he only poops once every 5 days. Is this normal?

No, this is not normal. And, why don't you know these things, if you are working at a day care center? I would think that anyone working in that industry would at least know the basics.

Ok, first of all, a daily bowel movement is NOT necessary. Many, many people do not have BM's every day and they are perfectly healthy.

Also, someone previously said if someone has more than four BM's in one day they have diarrhea. This is also not true. Diarrhea is a very loose, watery stool. If it's not watery it's not diarrhea, na matter how many times you go.

There is also no such rule that says you should have one Bowel Movement for every meal you eat and most people don't have this many bm's at all.

As ar as babies are concerned, if the baby is having normal stool (well formed, soft- not hard, and a decent amount) on a regular basis, is eating and drinking well, not fussy, and his/her abdomen is soft and not distended I wouldn't worry. The consistency of the stool is more important than the frequency.

And fewer bm's does NOT mean the mother is not feeding the baby!

There's no reason to call CPS or anyone else.

While I doubt a six month old baby is only pooping every five days (mom may be exaggerating) if the child has no other indications of illness I wouldn't worry. Constipated babies scream, a LOT! It hurts.

My 6 month old poops once maybe twice a day. That is not normal. A baby should poop at least once a day.

It Can be normal for some. But if he goes that often in someone Else's care then NO it probably is not. Some babies go several times a day others only once every few days, alto every 5 is stretching it quite a bit.

My son only goes about once a week, and everytime I take him to the doctor they always tell me to give him prune juice and to add more fiber to his diet. They doctor will not give you nay meds bc it can actually get him to have a non stop direha which would end up taking him to the er and would most likley stay until the problem is fixed. Try feeding him baby food that has prunes mixed in it, try giving him prune juice. My son hates it so I always mixed it with the baby cereal which seemed to make more ok for him to eat. Cherrios are aslo good for him. Hopefully that will help if not email me and I can help you more if you want. My son is now 2 years old and he has ahd the problem since he was 7 weeks old. So I have tried everything. Don't give him a laxative.

People should poop once for every meal they eat, but hardly anyone does because of how processed our diet is. Once every 5 days equates to one meal in 5 days, so I sure hope that isn't true. What an idiot mother.

No it is not. Could be she does not really know if someone else is changing diapers for her. If he does only poops once every 5 days he needs to see a Dr ASAP.

No that is not at all normal. The child should at the very least produce 3 poop diapers. She is doing or not doing something at home.

No, if he's only pooping once every 5 days then he's constipated and that's not healthy for the baby.
