Science fiction/paranormal/fantasy?

Question

50 years ago, the thought of human memory/ intelligence being uploaded to a machine was considered pseudo science and science fiction. In fact the idea would have been scoffed at and chided as paranormal fantasy. but in essence, this process has already occured? every time a human places an opinion, idea, or thought on the world wide web, we are in fact uploading ourselves to a machine. In short becoming a cyborg in essence with the collective mass. computer chips are being implanted to control heart functions, brain functions, hearing, eye site, and replacement of artificial limbs. at this point, has not science fiction/ and fantasy become science fact? because the science has not been discovered yet, is there any possibility the science for paranormal research and will be invented in the near future? Will computers soon become the so called collective soul for all humanity if they are merged with the human brain and spirit?

yes this may sound like star trek, but in reality, its not, its the real deal

PD, I am suprised at you, have you heard of nanotechnology and artificial intellegence? your skepticle of science too? singularity? what do the numbers
1,2,4,6,12,24,48 ect bring to mind? if computer tech doubles every two years, at what point do they become smarter than humans?

PD, I have also asked which laws of the universe are correct? General Law of Physics or the Quantum law of physics? they are not the same and they are not unified. there is no current math to unify them so which is the correct law of physics? is there a correct law of physics? would a singular intelligence find a new law or make its own laws? therefore throwing out Both laws of physics as you now believe so much in?

At this point in time we are at the stage of using computer implants as an on and off switch, like with the pacemaker and the specialised pacemaker like device they are using for people with severe seizures and even tourretts.
In 50 years that on/offswitch will be a full blown computer that will mimic any action of the body. Combined with the brain, there will be no bounds.

Posting personal information on the internet isn't any different than writing a book and publishing it--you're just using a different medium. Besides, it doesn't really take away from anything or create an electromechanical creature.

Pacemakers are just a technological advancement, not unlike a prosthetic limb. I have no doubt that in the future there will be non-living devices that will perform a number of medical tasks for us. In that respect, when it happens, we will be closer and closer to resembling the bionic man.

The idea that computers will be anything but our servants is indeed science fiction. The movie the Terminator comes to mind. I don't see how this relates to paranormal subjects though, because these bionic servants will follow the laws of the universe. If we started seeing robot ghosts, then that would be something completely different.

Quite often scifi predicts the future because scientists write scifi books. Arthur C Clarke, 2001: a space odyssey, father of the communication satellite, is one of the most prolific scifi writers and is also credited with predicting many of the modern inventions we have today. Geostationary satellites used for telecommunications relays, radio waves to cook food (Microwave ovens), reverse polarity foods ( the crap you pants potato chips), And the space elevator (NASA is still trying to build one). He also was a main contributer to the development of radar in WWII. H G Wells and Jules Verne are both great too at predicting the future. I wonder if the idea to invent comes from cool things we see and want or if they are just the next step in product evolution. If you watch the original star trek show we now have a bunch of the stuff now, flip phones are just like the communicators, automatic opening doors are everywhere now, medical scanning tools, and warp drive even has science behind it now. Who would have guessed!

There was something on the Discovery Channel a while back; I don't recall when exactly but you can do some further research if you're interested...there was a man who actually had a computer chip placed in his head to see if he could merge technology and the human brain. He managed to control a toy (I think) car or robot with the chip in his brain/interface.

Also, he was doing lots of tests on robots and such to see if they could 'learn' by their environment. It was very interesting. I think the merging of the two; however is going to be strictly voluntary for the most part.

Generally science fiction has had the effect of inspiring scientist and engineers. Allowing them to think of problems in unique ways and come up with interesting solutions, also giving us a ideas of what may be possible.

However the really intersting problems in science, especially in physics and mathematics still seem somewhat intractible dispite our current progress.

Science fiction has also caused us to think more about more philosphical and ethical issues.
Just because I can do something, does that mean that I should?

At least when you write on a computer...you know you're being recorded. What's worse is when people record or video tape you without your knowledge. Actually, whenever you tell anyone anything...that info is a good as permanently "recorded" because of gossip...and it's usually twisted.
Hey...did you see on the news tonight about cloning? I think we talked about it on here yesterday....then "Multiplicity " was on tv last night..then on the news today. (gives you the feeling you're being spied on, doesn't it!?)
