A while back I was running every day. This went on for a few months until the inside part of my right ankle (allong my ackilles tendon) got sore. So I backed off and just swam. Now however, I've started training to play competitive soccer again. I've been going out to a field every day to train. The surface is hard. One day a week, I've been using ankle weights. I'll wear them for about half an hour. I went pretty hard with them on Monday. On Tuesday, my right ankle was sore in the same spot that it was when I had been running. I've been taking it easy since then, but I don't know how long to take off and/or how to prevent this from happening again. Do you think the ankle weights did it? If so, why is only my right ankle bugging me?

Could be some tindonitis in your achillies tendon. This happened to me in my peroneal tendons, which are also in the ankle. It can come from too much or too little training. In my case I was playing tennis once a week for an hour and after about a year developed the injury. After resting it until the major pain went away, I started playing more and did stretching exercises for that area and now it's gone after about a year of this.
Tindonitis is when a tendon or tendon channel gets irritated or inflamed. Some over the counter medications can reduce this pain while you are training as they reduce inflamation. Other things you can do are to not go at it too hard after a long time off(as the tendon will weaken if not trained for a long time and you could re-injure it), rest it when it gets too painful, and do some extra exercises to strengthen that area. These strenghtening exercises must be done regularly(more than once a week) if they are to have any benefit.
The achillies tendon is a dangerous one though, some people I know have snapped it right in two after ignoring pain down there and training hard anyway. You might want to get an MRI on that area just to make sure you're not in danger of snapping it.

If the problem keeps happening you should consult a doctor but for now rest it and take the weights off.. Don't push it no more. when you were running you could have injured something and now that you have started heavy activity again it could have irritated the problem again.
Good Luck
