That depends,
If we solve some of the basic problems we have on our home world, and particularly if we manage to leave the solar system, I suspect that our race may be very long lived indeed.
However, within the next 500 years that fate will be more or less decided by us and our immediate descendants.
Personally, I think we will likely see a serious resource crisis in the next 20 years as it dawns on people that we REALLY ARE running out of oil.
This could and probably will trigger at least 2 of the major powers (China and the United States probably) to try to militarily seek to secure those resources by all necessary means.
I think that if terrorists - in reaction - use any kind of WMD, there is probably an automatic trigger setup in the US military - as in the Russian and probably Chinese militaries that if event X occurs - response Y is automatic , then it's up to our military commanders to figure out what happens afterwards.
So likely if fundamentalist Wahabi's nuke New York or something, there is probably an automatic reaction to glass over somewhat larger portions of the middle east, and then politicians and people get to ask questions or address a more reasonable response.
Unfortunately, we have some pretty bad leaders so bad stuff will likely happen., the president and consequently other world leaders are quietly and actively seeking to deploy sub-Hiroshima yield "tactical nukes", thus making limited nuclear wars not just thinkable but a natural extension of regional conflict. This imagines the US and by extension other interests using some sort these weapons in a sort of "tit for tat" situation where many smaller weapons are used to disrupt economies and inflict mass death without actually killing off the opponent.
However, afterwards, there will be people left, the dead will need to be buried, the sick attended to, what will the lessons of such a war or wars will be, then.
I suspect any nuclear exchange which does not escalate and result in the gigadeath of the race, will cause our species to grow up in a very serious way.
We may not conquer the stars but it's likely we could focus our attentions on being better stewards towards each other.
I suspect that barring some long slow galactic civilization, we may just inhabit our solar system increasingly and eventually either all "upload" ourselves into another form of consciousness or evolve to some type of trans-human race that we cannot really probably grasp - other than to say they will be far superior to "us".

The big countries will nuke themselves.... Small backwards countries outside the blast zone will continue living on though...
No matter-- how many "nukes" the big countries put up in the air at one another I doubt it'll be enough to "block out the sun." (and other such nonsense I always hear...)
I mean there's Volcanoes that are way----- more powerful than nukes that have erupted and not blocked out the sun all over the world.....
In nutshell the big countries will kill themselves off trying to claim they are more powerful than one another and the small countries in far off corners of the world will go on living....
To "lauren" I agree if it happens by Bible way.... The Bible says no man will know the exact time of the end of the world... So forget all those prophecised dates.... Also I agree the Rapture happends first because before the 7 years of Tribulation it says god comes down from heaven with his followers... Meaning the dead would have risen already by thing....
In terms of Israel. If you look at the US foreign policy it has been about experimenting in trying to bring about the end days. The US/Europe thought by giving Israel to the Jews starting in the 1920's (breaking it off from Palestine.) that it would bring about this. IT hasn't... Next they've continued to grant Israel more and more land trying to trip off the return of Christ which hasn't happend. Now they say that they have to destroy the Muslim temple, and rebuild the Israel temple on the site of the Muslim temple and that should bring about the end days.... I'm waiting to see what happends Israel really wants to level the Muslim temple however you know what kind of International war that would start????

I don't think Fresh Water will be a very big issue at all. Countries that need fresh water are already paying money to install Desalinization plants... (Which take Sea water and remove the salt.) Barbados has one, and I hear Aruba has the same. Trinidad is building one now too and so on... Also I hear countries in the Middle East are building them too. Saudi Arabia comes to mind... As the technology is out for a while countries will spend a part of their budgets to buy one...
In terms of Pollution. The good thing is if you're a polluting country the =pollution tends to stay only around you. So places located no where near a polluting nation don't suffer pollution. Also simple events like a Hurricane passing over a city can temporarily blow away all of the pollution in a city until man gets back to work after the storm and makes more pollution. So again places that are located no where near the polluting countries don't need to worry again. The developed nations in a nutshell will destroy themselves. But people like living in a Amazon or something will live even after the developed world kills themselves off.

Our Dear Mother Earth will die along with her companions the Sun and the Moon in several billiion years time when the Sun implodes and its heat expands swallowing our solar system. That's only if the Solar system survives that long because our Galaxy is also heading for meltdown by journeying inwards toward the black hole in the centre of the Milky Way, a bit like water in the bathtub going down the plughole. Our galaxy is also on a crash collission course with the nearest other Galaxy, Andromeda.
The issue of the human race and it's survival probably depends on our ability to transcend our current global crises, feed all the children, bring drinking water to everyone, share the resources and consider our journey outward to the stars.

The human race will never end. neither will the earth, but it will be changed ..... first there will be a 7 year tribulation. the first 3.5 years of it will be peacefull, the second half will be horible with one man ruling the one world government. an thus the whole world. then the battle of armigenon, then the melenial (spelled wrong) period, a melenium of peace.then a "little season" then the white throne judgement. then an eternity of peace with no sin. (heaven). just incase my memory fails me, the battle might be after the melenial period. dont htink so though. after the white throne jugement a firely ferverant will flow through the heavens (the universe) and remake everything. there will no longer be large bodies of water on the earth, the oceans, i think we will still have large lakes, just o oceans, i think.

Yes, I do believe in the Biblical account regarding the end. If you read the book of Revelation realizing that John was a first century man who was trying to describe 21 century technology that he would have had no knowledge about, it makes clear sense!! In Revelation 5 he mentions seeing a "Ball of Fire fall into the sea" and how it became as blood! This is a perfect description of a nuclear bomb exploding from a man who would have had no idea what it would have been.

I have no idea - but have always loved Kierkegaard's parable on the subject...
"It happened that a fire broke out backstage in a theater. The clown came out to inform the public. They thought it was just a jest and applauded. He repeated his warning, they shouted even louder. So, I think the world will come to an end amid general applause from all the wits, who believe that it is a joke"

Mankind will eliminate himself by destroying our environment via war, pollution and destruction. The world will go on just as it did when the dinosaurs was no longer around. Just another life form that can survive in what is left after us. Cockroaches and ants will still be here.

The human race in one way or another will be the end of the human race and we will take other species down with us.

i believe in the "biblical version"
it's the only way. every single thing in the bible is true. if something agrees with the bible, it's right, if it isn't mentioned in the bible it could go either way, and if it contradicts the bible, it's dead wrong.
the world is going to end after the rapture, while the antichrist is here.
hint: there will be peace in israel when it happens, so its not right now

We always assume it will be ourselves who destroy us, mostly of course because as humans we believe the only thing powerful enough to destroy us is us. This is probably true. I don't really care how we go, as long as before we do somebody tells us why we were here in the first place.
