They get huge salaries, bonuses & benefits & a massive retirement package when all they do is fight amongst themselves & waste copious amounts of money. Teens working at fast food shops do more work so why pay these bastards such a fortune?

The kids at McDonald's dont get to give themselves raises

Actually, politicians do not make an incredibly high yearly salary-at least not high compared to what they could be making in, say, a law firm. The yearly salary for a senator is about $125,000. But they make more than a teen in a fast food place because they are working in the highest level of government-and they certainly do a lot of work. Yes, they have much more help than them, but the fact of the matter remains that they do far more complicated work than mcdonald's employees. Two other reasons why they make all this money: 1) We are a capitalist society, and 2)LOBBYISTS!

I dont think they make too much per year, what I have a problem with is the retirement that members of Congress recieve- all you have to do is serve 6 yrs and you are set for life. People voted in before 1989/90ish can transfer all the money they have in their political coffers into personal accounts as well. Thankfully they changed that so people elected after that time cannot do that, they have to give it to another campaign or charity. Those old timers can raise MILLIONS the year before they retire and KEEP it ALL.

actually, politicians dont get paid all THAT much. most get paid a reasonably good salary, and a very good retirement pension, but the majority of the money they receive comes from lobbyists and interest groups who help pay for said politicians' campaigns, with the agreement that the politicians will fight for their causes.

Teens working at fast foods shops may work more, but they do not produce more. Pay is one of the things that allows us to obtain reasonably capable people for government positions.
