~Johann Gutenburg invented a printing press with movable type in the late 1440's. No invention before or since (including the computer and the internet) has had, or ever will have, anything close to the impact of that little toy. In fact, without Gutenburg's press it is dubious that anything which came later would have come at all.

Edit Update: Oscar (directly below me) you did it again ~ LOL. I stated typewriter for purposes of later "computer" - there wouldn't have been a typewriter consideration unless there was first the printing press.
